Volunteering at Camp Idlewild: Making a Difference in the Lives of Children

8/12/2025

Camp Idlewild of Florida provides life-changing experiences for children with developmental disabilities, and volunteers play a vital role in making those experiences possible. From helping during programs to supporting fundraising events, volunteers are essential to the camp’s mission of building confidence, encouraging independence, and creating joyful memories for every camper.

Why Volunteers Matter

Camp Idlewild runs on a mix of dedicated staff and generous volunteers who give their time, energy, and skills to help the camp run smoothly and safely. Volunteers allow the camp to expand its reach, enhance the quality of programs, and create a stronger, more inclusive community. Every hour of help directly supports campers and their families.

Ways to Get Involved

There are many ways to volunteer beyond the core camp programs. Throughout the year, Camp Idlewild hosts scheduled workdays where individuals or groups can lend a hand with projects around the property. These days often involve maintenance, improvements, and beautification of the camp’s natural setting.

Companies and organizations are also encouraged to bring their teams to camp for a day of service. Whether painting cabins, landscaping, or tackling a group project, these efforts have a lasting impact—and offer a meaningful team-building opportunity.

Volunteers are also needed to support special events and fundraisers, including the camp’s annual charity golf tournament. Whether it’s helping with setup, registration, logistics, or promotion, event volunteers play a key role in helping Camp Idlewild meet its fundraising goals.

The Benefits of Volunteering

While the biggest benefit is knowing you're helping kids and families thrive, volunteering at Camp Idlewild also offers the chance to build friendships, learn new skills, and feel part of a purpose-driven community. No experience is necessary—just a willingness to lend a hand and a heart for helping others.

We also provide student volunteers with credit hours that can be applied toward Florida scholarship requirements, making this an excellent way for young people to meet academic service goals while making a real difference.
